Looking At NHL Goalers NHL’s … Player of the Week While the Montreal-Canadiens were lengthening their record unbeaten streak last week, versatile Rejean Houle had his best week ever in a Montreal uniform. Houle, who returned last year to the Canadiens after three years in the World Hockey Association, scored five goals, including three in an 8-2 romp over the Washington Capitals, his second career NHL hat trick. Against the Colorado Rockies, Houle, who has played every forward position for Montreal this year, had two goals and two assists and now has 45 points in 54 games. There were enough extras to start filming “Son of Slapshot,” or at least scrimmage the University of Pennsylvania’s hockey team. GM Keith Allen said the purpose of forming a “junior varsity”…
Capitals Need Road Trip To Turn Fortunes Around
Special To The Hockey News WASHINGTON— Hard work is supposed to reap dividends and well maybe it did, but perhaps it was the change in scenery which helped the Washington Capitals to their 11th victory in 58 starts this year. Starting the week with a pair of homeice assignments in the Capital Centre the Caps let down their avid fans by losing twice. The second game was against Montreal and a win wasn’t really expected. After all the Capitals have never beaten the Canadiens and Montreal was pretty loose after establishing a new National Hockey League record by playing their 24th consecutive unbeaten game two nights earlier in St. Louis. Washington was supposed to just be number 25 in the record book and they obliged. What the Caps did was to stand around and admire…
