Rockies Add Muscle With Acquisition Of Owchar, O’Brien
DENVER— Seeking to add more hitting to their lineup, the Colorado Rockies acquired a couple of bruising defensemen within hours of each other on Dec. 2. First, they traded defenseman Tom Edur to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Dennis Owchar in a straight one-for-one deal. Then, several hours later, they claimed Dennis O’Brien on waivers from the Minnesota North Stars. Both new Rockies were in the Colorado lineup for the first time in a 6-3 loss to Philadelphia Saturday night, Dec. 3, and Owchar had an assist on the Rockies’ third goal, scored by Paul Gardner. “Considering that they came in here the day of their first game with us, I think both guys played well,” said Pat Kelly of his new defensemen named Dennis, who he hopes will both be menaces. “They didn’t have…
