Gilbert, Hodge, Goldsworthy Out As Club Continues Swing To Youth

NEW YORK— The New York Rangers completed a sweeping house cleaning Thanksgiving Day when they “retired” Rod Gilbert, the highest scorer in the history of the New York hockey team. “Gilbert will be paid his full $200,000 salary,” informed John Ferguson, the New York general manager. “He wasn’t upset when I told him of our decision, but he did think the decision was premature and that he could play two or three more years. “The decision to tell Gilbert he wouldn’t be playing anymore for the Rangers this season was very tough. We feel that with Don Murdoch and our first draft choice Lucien DeBlois on the right side, we have great strength.
