Oilers Clinch Final Playoff Berth
EDMONTON— In the World Hockey Association, not necessarily do 80 games a season make. To make a playoff spot in the Western Division for the Edmonton Oilers, it took 81 games. That’s the way the situation developed as Edmonton beat out Calgary in the final fateful week. The Oilers and Cowboys had been in a dead heat at 68 points for the fourth and final playoff berth in the Western Division with two games remaining. Fans Prove Cleveland Wants Hockey
CLEVELAND— If there was any question as to whether there were enough people in Cleveland who really cared about the game of hockey, it has now been answered. For the first 34 games of the 1976-77 National Hockey League season, the Cleveland Barons played before an average audience of slightly more than 5,100. And Cleveland was a city that had clamored for the NHL since the 1940s when it was considered the seventh-best hockey city in the country.
