Hawks Hoping Captain Magnuson Will Give Club Lift

CHICAGO– Keith Magnuson, who would break his neck for the Black Hawks and last year almost did, has been named team captain by coach Bill White. The appointment is highly proper because Magnuson has been the club’s spiritual leader since appearing here seven and a half seasons ago, and if ever the Black Hawks needed a heart transplant, it is now. The Royals, who had put together a streak of 11 wins and a tie in a dozen starts, were stunned twice by the surging Spokane Flyers. After winning six straight the Royals were drilling 4-1 on their own ice. That was Spokane’s third straight win on foreign ice. After winning in Trail, the Royals ventured to Spokane and were thrashed 8-2, the most one-sided loss of the year for Cranbrook. This indifferent week kept Cranbrook, the team most observers picked to win the league championship for a second straight year, in a first-place tie with Kimberley. Atop the league almost since the season started, Kimberley…
