Irish Ace Walsh Provides Punch As Notre Dame Rolls Unbeaten

SOUTH BEND– As Brian Walsh goes, so goes Notre Dame’s hockey team. Right now the senior captain of the Fighting Irish is red hot. The center from Cambridge, Mass., has scored eight goals in his last four games and, not so coincidentally, Notre Dame has won all four, moving it into a third place tie in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. “Walsh is so strong. There’s little you can do against him,” said Minnesota-Duluth coach Gus Hendrickson after watching Walsh score four goals in an Irish sweep over the Bulldogs. “He’s not flashy like some players in the league, but he’s a great playmaker,” said UMD’s freshman-of-the-year candidate Dan Lempe, who tried to stay with Walsh during the series. Lemoyne, who doubles as business agent for controversial Pierre Larouche of the Pittsburgh Penguins, had been seen talking with several businessmen in the last few weeks and appeared to be going through…

Habs’ Letdown Causes No Panic With Cup Champs Class Of NHL

MONTREAL— Perhaps the best way to describe the play of the Canadiens recently is to compare it with an elevator—up one game and down the next time out. Believe it or not, the Canadiens lost two games in less than seven days last week But. There’s no panic around Atwater and St Catharines Streets in downtown Montreal. The Habs are still well ahead of everyone else in the National Hockey League. After blanking the Colorado Rockies just three hours after arriving in Denver, the Canadiens travelled on to St. Louis where the Blues thrashed the Habs 7-2. It was then back to the Forum, where the Canadiens shutout the L A. Kings 6-0. From the Forum, it was off to Boston and the Bruins stunned the Canadiens 7-3—winning over Montreal for the third time…
