The Gems, who won the IHL’s regular season points title and the Huber Trophy, were the class of the league this season piling-up a record 104 points to lead all IHL clubs and when it came to putting it on the line the Gems were again superior in the league playoffs. New York-Penn League The “Cinderella” team of the New York - Penn Jr. Hockey league has won the coveted Empire Cup, denoting them as 1975-76 playoff champs. The Niagara Falls Mangs Sharks finished fourth in the regular season and drew the powerful Amherst Knights as their first-round semi-final opponents. The Knights had the Sharks on the ropes, down three games to one, when the young skaters from the Honeymoon City put on a performance which will be long remembered. Just prior to the schedule break to allow the Knights and Rochester Monarchs to compete in the National Jr. “B” Tournament, the Sharks dumped Amherst 5-4 to put the series at 3-2.
