Kings’ Carr Psyched-Out, Frustrated
LOS ANGELES— A highly-regarded junior and a first round draft choice in the summer of 1971, Gene Carr’s career has been disappointing. A swift skater and good detensive player, he is an inaccurate shooter who admits, “If hitting goal-posts counted, I’d be leading the league in scoring. I’m psyched-out and frustrated by my failures to find the net.” Traded by the Blues to the Rangers and then on to the Kings early in 1974, he scored only seven goals in his first full season with the club last season, but was doing better with eight goals in 38 games this season before being sidelined by ruptured disc in his back. In his fifth professional season, he missed parts of prior campaigns with a broken collarbone and skull concussion. This latest injury became serious…

Rangers To End Dismal NHL Season Considering Tkaczuk As Trade Bait
NEW YORK— As the New York Rangers’season winds down to a precious few days the future of center Walter Tkaczuk seems even more precarious than ever. There was a time when Tkaczuk and Brad Park represented the Rangers future. His name was carefully emblazoned on the bulletin board in the team’s public relations office. Steve Brklacich. the Rangers scout said, “Tkaczuk is so strong, he can be as good as he wants to be. The only player stronger in the NHL is Phil Esposito.” Walter came up to the Rangers in 1968-69 and played on the third or checking line. A year later he led an early season Ranger surge to first place — and New York might have finished there except for a spate of late season injuries. His linemates Billy Fairbairn…

Islanders Reach Playoff Form Early
LONG ISLAND— Glenn Resch had just finished shutting out the St. Louis Blues for his seventh blank of the season, when he was asked if the game, a 40 victory, was a prelude of the playoffs. “Gee, I sure hope so,” answered the league’s hottest netminder. “As of now, I think we would play them. But the most important thing is that we’re playing well together as a team once again. 1 his had to be my most satisfying shutout,” he continued. It was a great team effort. Everything went right; I don’t think they had more than one or two good chances all night.” “I think we’ve played well for a couple of games in a row, now,” added coach Al Arbour, who also serves as the club’s number one critic. When he…
