Scouts’ Rota Proving Size Not A Handicap
KANSAS CITY— Rodney Dangerfield doesn’t have anything on Randy Rota, the Scouts 5’8”, 166 pound winger. “I think if I were bigger I could get a little more respect,” says Rota, who gained a little self-respect with a good relief job at the end of February. With Wilf Paiement nursing a muscle strain in his thigh Rota stepped onto right wing with center Guy Charron and left wing Craig Patrick. In three games Rota popped for the first goal of each game, beating Ken Dryden, Billy Smith and Gerry Desjardins. “Small but mighty,” said Eddie Bush, the Scout coach. “He’s a shooter and a skater. You don’t have to be big to play this game.” Which is lucky for Rota. Only a few major-leaguers are smaller, like Bobby Lalonde and Dennis Polonich. And the way…

The great right-winger Gordie Howe, second with 1,643 minutes in 1,687 games over 25 campaigns before he retired to the other league, was second until recently. This season little-known Bryan Watson passed both Howe and the number three man, the late, great Tim Horton of Toronto, to become second-best all-time at this singular specialty and the leading defenseman in this respect ever. Horton had 1,611 minutes…

Sold in U.S. and Canada HAMPTON— Steve Andrascik has yet to crash the top 15 scorers and he most certainly won’t get many votes for Most Valuable Player. In fact, his name (the a is long and flat) has been mispronounced at least once in every Southern Hockey League rink this season. However, when Hampton Gulls’ coach John Brophy is asked to account for his team’s second-place showing in the SHL this season, he doesn’t hesitate before singling out the 5-11, 190-pound right winger from Sherridon. Manitoba. “Frank Beaton was doing a great job for us before…
