Philly’s “Big Bird” Saleski Pleased With Contribution To Flyers’ Cause

PHILADELPHIA— “Big Bird” is happy. Not Sesame Street’s Big Bird, but Philadelphia’s Big Bird, Don Saleski of the Flyers. The main reason for Saleski’s guarded contentment is the Flyers’ first-place standing despite the season-long absence of Bernie Parent and the recent injury to Rick MacLeish. Laperriere Learning Coaching Is Frustrating

MONTREAL— If Jacques Laperriere didn’t know coaching was a frustrating profession at the beginning of the season, he sure does now. Laperriere’s Montreal Juniors are currently third in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s West Division and appear destined to finish the schedule in the same spot. It has been an up and down season for the Juniors with most of the ups at home and the downs on the road. Their nine wins, 16 losses and six ties away from the Montreal Forum doesn’t make them unwelcome guests in most of the other QMJHL rinks. However, a 20-8-1 record at home is one of the more respectable marks in the league. But of late the Juniors have been playing their most inconsistent hockey of the season. In their last 21 games they have managed…
