Awrey’s Role With Canadiens By No Means Small
MONTREAL— At the outset of the 1975-76 schedule the Montreal Canadiens decided that defense was going to be the key to their success. As the regular season heads into the home stretch all of the Montreal rearguards, with the possible exception of Guy Lapointe, don’t appear headed for banner campaigns as far as points are concerned. But defensively the club has achieved what it set out to do—have the lowest goals-allowed figure in the NHL. Don Awrey has been one of the blueliners to see his goal total drop, not that it had far to go. While he’s only a single marker shy…

JOHN FERGUSON’S DETERMINATION AND FIRE…
NEW YORK— John Bowie Ferguson might be just what the fat cat New York Rangers need. A big name as a winner with fire and competitiveness that literally burns right at the surface. The big question is, has Ferguson got the talent to pull off a playoff berth this season? Most hockey observers are convinced he can’t do it if for no other reason he’s running out of time. Runners Powerless When Shorthanded
PHOENIX— The Phoenix Roadrunners allowed three power play goals in a span of seven minutes, 11 seconds of the third period at Indianapolis hut escaped with a 6-5 victory on Del Hall’s 33rd goal of the season with 51 seconds left on the clock. The Roadrunners have allowed six goals while shorthanded in their last two games. They lost 4-1 at Cincinnati with three power play goals making the difference. The game-deciding goal at Winnipeg in the previous outing was by Willy Lindstrom on a power play, making seven of the last 10 scored against the Roadrunners power play goals. With 64 power play goals against in 59 games, the Roadrunners are threatening their own World Hockey Association record of 76, set last season. Despite the deluge of power play goals, coach Sandy Hucul…
