Bruins Winning In Uncharacteristic Manner

BOSTON— Once upon a time, writers covering the Bruins, this one included. sometimes would be almost late for the team bus making a getaway for the airport after a game. The reason was simple, the Bruins would score so many goals in a game and so would the other team-that it took a long st onto describe the game. Esposito. Hodge. Cashman. Bucyk Stanfield. McKenzie. Orr. Sanderson-they were all driving goalkeepers nuts. But, at the same time goalkeepers like Eddie Johnston and Gerry Cheevers were watching their goals-against averages zoom, because you could hardly call Boston a backchecking club. Oh. they won. which is what counts, but the scores were 7-4:85. and even 10-2. etc. As Christmas rears its lovely head this season, the Bruins are still winning, but in a different way. As…

Ontario Sold in U.S. and Canada TUCSON— Seven weeks of frustration finally boiled over, as usually mild-mannered coach Adam Keller and his Tucson Mavericks collectively lost their cool in a Dec. 12 game at Tulsa’s Assembly Center. The Mavs had been trying since Oct. 28 to post their second victory in the Central HockeyLeague. The new entry, backed by several World Hockey Association clubs, won a 5-3 verdict in Fort Worth on that date. Repeatedly the Mavericks had built up leads in other games, only to see them turned into ties or losses. A well-played game in Dallas. Dec. 10. had seen the…

The USHL Scene

GREEN BAY— The Green Bay Bobcats are currently the hottest team in the United States Hockey League race and they’re showing no mercy as they sweep towards the top of the Northern Division race. The Cats took dead aim at leading Traverse City by beating them 7-2 after running roughshod over Milwaukee 6-5 and Marquette 8-0 for a three-game sweep of their week’s activities. The Bobcats closed to within one game of the top-placed Bays and had a game in hand advantage. USHL fans were still talking about the Milwaukee Admirals dramatic come-from-behind 9-8 decision over the Southern Division leading Sioux City Musketeers. With over 2,200 Sioux fans looking on, the Musketeers appeared headed for win No. 13 with an 8-6 lead with only 90 seconds of playing time remaining in their USHL…
