NEW YORK— In the wash of three straight bombings by large scores, reminis cent of the pitiful wartime New York Rangers, general manager Emile Francis placed the entire Ranger team on revocable waivers. “That was his way of telling everyone they could be traded and that he would listen to offers for all of us,” said one veteran. “This team needs to get organized. It needs to settle on its third line. It needs some checking and it needs some defensemen who know how to play defense.” Ron Stewart, the Rangers rookie coach, surprisingly isn’t under fire from either the fans or front office. New York Metro League The MJHA is beginning its tenth season in the New York-New Jersey area with a wide array of talented skaters and teams. Now in their fourth week of action, the Bergen-Rockland Knights remain undefeated. The MJHA’s version of the “Big Red Scoring Machine” has surprised everyone, jumping out in front of the nine-team pack and staying there. The Knights are averaging 7.5 goals per contest. Knights center Dave Fairweather is the league’s leading scorer with seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points. New Hyde Park captain John Jaskul scored the hat trick and contributed two assists in a losing cause, with linemate Steve Schrager adding four assists.
