Borgeson Paying Off Trade For Denver Spurs

DENVER— Don Borgeson continues his hot hand for the Denver Spurs, firing his fourth and fifth goals in the five games he has been with the Rocky Mountain gang, but the Spurs lost to Winnipeg 5-2. They evened the slate for the week with a 2-1 victory over Calgary with Randy Legge and Rick Morris getting their first goals of the season. The WHA office announced that the six goals the Spurs and the Jets scored in a recent game in Dever in the first six minutes and 15 seconds of play was a league record. PHOENIX: Barry Dean’s first goal as a pro was the game-winner in a 4-3 Roadrunner decision over the Cowboys in Calgary. Pappin’s Arrival To Give Offense Big Lift

OAKLAND— The biggest news from the California Seals since Mel Swig established beyond a doubt that he owned the team came during an Eastern road swing when it was announced that high-scoring right winger Jim Pappin would join the club at long last. Pappin had balked at reporting to his team for a variety of personal and domestic reasons after being traded by the Chicago Black Hawks to the Seals in exchange for Joey Johnston. The deal was consumated was back last June, but problems didn’t happen until training camp when Pappin didn’t show. Self Satisfaction Most Important Factor To Shutt

MONTREAL— A glance at the National Hockey League’s individual scoring statistics gives the indication that Montreal’s Steve Shutt is not on his way to a banner season. But first impressions aren’t always accurate. Following 10 games of the current NHL campaign Shutt had two goals and six assists for eight points, a long way from his 1974-75 totals of 30-35—65. “It seems like a slow start because of my good training camp,” Shutt said. “When things aren’t going as you’d like them to, you start putting pressure on yourself and that makes it hard for you.” Known more as the guy who plays left wing with Pete Mahovlich and Guy Lafleur, Steve has gone ‘under cover’ this season.
