The league had rid itself of the financially-troubled Baltimore Blades and proceeded to stock the new Denver Spurs with some of their players. They also reeled off a special player draft that eased the WHA coffers of approximately $3 million dollars. In addition they held their first intra-league draft and came away with an increased 80-game schedule plus three new bench coaches. ST. PAUL— Wayne Belisle, president of the Minnesota Fighting Saints, called it mere coincidence that his WH A team called a news conference an hour before the rival Minnesota North Stars introduced their open house to season ticket holders. The North Stars, out of the NHL playoffs for two straight seasons, are trying to rebuild their image in the Twin Cities. They’ve hired a new coach in Ted Harris, promised season ticket holders a free T-shirt if they miss the Stanley Cup playoffs and came up with the idea of the open house—free beer, hot dogs, soft drinks and a tour of the Met Sports Center.
