Right Wing Proving To Be Flames’ Trouble Spot
ATLANTA— Nobody would be overly surprised if Cliff Fletcher hung a sign out on the door of The Omni saying, “Help Wanted at Right Wing.” The Atlanta Flames’ general manager has made no secret that this is the area he needs to improve in order for his team to rise above its fourth place nonplayoff status of last season. During all three of the Flames’ seasons, right wing has been a problem department. Two years ago, the Flames had a couple of potential scoring whizzes in Al McDonough and Larry Romanchych. McDonough scored 24 goals and 55 points, Romanchych 22 and 52. And both appeared to be just approaching their prime seasons. But then McDonough departed for that other league, and Romanchych’s knees began breaking apart. And the Flames no longer had a right…

Montreal Gets Nod For ‘76 Memorial Cup
MONTREAL— For the second time in four years the Montreal Forum will be the site of the Memorial Cup championship. After being held here in 1973 the locale switched to Calgary in 1974 and Kitchener this past season. The 1976 climax to the junior hockey season will be held from May 9 to 16 with the top teams of the Western Canada League, Quebec Major League and Ontario Hockey Association vieing for the national title. Meanwhile the ownership of the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec League changed hands and a new coach appointed. A spokesman for Colibec, owners of the Quebec junior franchise, said that all shares in the team were sold to Mas-sicotte and its shareholders. Remparts’ manager Paul Dumont said the losses incurred by the club over this past season were not the reason…

Maturing Of Rookies Aided Blues
ST. LOUIS— Although the St. Louis Blues were eliminated early in the playoffs, they had finished the regular season with a rush that carried them past Chicago and into second place in their division. The fact the Blues were better at the end of the season than last October was due partly to the maturing of the team’s rookies. Bob Hess, Lawrence Sacharuk, Doug Palazzari, Rick Wilson, Yves Belanger and Bruce Afflecktook big leaps in gaining experience this past season. They can make big contributions to the future of the team. Although the Blues were loaded with rookies in 1974-75, they still had the solid performances of such veterans as Barclay and Bob Plager, Garry Unger, Bill Collins, Red Berenson, Claude Larose and Eddie Johnston. Certain standards can be expected of these men…

SHL Hoping For Interlocking Schedule With NAHL
THE HOCKEY NEWS EVERY WEEK for the price of a ticket to a SINGLE GAME! Superb Hockey Reading Each Month HOCKEY WORLD & HOCKEY PICTORIAL ROANOKE— The Southern Hockey League will propose at its annual meeting that the SHL seek an interlocking schedule with the North American Hockey League. “The NAHL doesn’t need us, we need them.” said the SHL official, who requested anonymity. “Our teams have never drawn well against the northern teams, but if Norfolk and Richmond don’t join the SHL. we can’t afford to have the same four teams coming into our buildings next year.” Ironically, the impending request by the Southern League smacks of a direct contradiction to the reason that the league was formed in the first place. After seasons of failing to draw as a southern appendage to the now-defunct…
