Canadiens Drop Mystery Semi-Final Set

MONTREAL— Agatha Christie would have been proud to have written the script for the Montreal Canadiens-Buffalo Sabres semi-final series. The six-game set was filled with suspense, excitement and most of all mystery. The only thing missing was a solution to the puzzle: ‘Who did the Canadiens in? In the final analysis the death would have to be termed a suicide. Entering the series. the Habs had failed to pick up a win against the Sabres in five regular season tries. Only a 4-4 tie kept Buffalo from registering a perfect record. Yet, the Canadiens were expected to come up big in the best-of-seven getto-gether and possibly gain a berth in the finals. Seals Sign Patey ToMulti-Year Pact

OAKLAND— The California Golden Seals announced they have signed top scoring center Larry Patey to a multi-year contract. Terms of the contract were not disclosed by director of hockey operations Bill McCreary. Patey, in his first NHL season, scored 25 goals and finished with 45 points tieing fellow center Stan Weir for the team’s scoring honors. The 32-year-old native of Toronto, Ontario, was the sixth leading NHL rookie scorer in the 1974-75 season. Patey’s totals include eight power-play goals, tieing him with left wing Dave Hrechkosy for the team high and four game-winning goals, second to Hrechkosy’s six. “Larry Patey is the calibre of player we hope to build this franchise around,” McCreary said. “His performance this past season is an indication of what potential he has.” Patey, a 6′ 1″, 180-pounder, was the Seals’…
