‘Handyman’ Lorentz Continues To Answer Sabre Calls For Help

BUFFALO— Lorenzo the handyman again has proved he’s a good man to have around. Jim Lorentz, know to his Buffalo Sabre teammates as ‘Lorenzo”, has played all three forward positions for the club. He also performs on the power-play and once in a while kills a penalty. Last season Jim played right wing on a line centered by Gerry Meehan. Dorey, who will almost certainly immediately become the leader of…

BURLINGTON— The Cats’ nap is over, the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s Division One hockey teams noted with a grimace as they heard the news of the Syracuse Invitational Tournament. The Cats, of course, are the University of Vermont Catamounts, coached by Jim Cross and campaigning for the first season in Division One league play. After a slow start, with one win in seven early games, U VM has ripped off five of its last six capped by wins of 7-5 over St. Lawrence and 5-2 over Cornell in the Syracuse Tourney. The splurge has evened Vermont’s overall slate at 6-6, but infinitely more important, it has brought the league mark to 4-1, good for a second place tie with highly-regarded Boston University. Architect of the Syracuse conquest was senior center Tim O’Connell from Hingham,…
