Quick Shots On Goal The slap shot is impressive to watch and a powerful one can knock a goalie off his feet. But there are plenty of uses for the old fashioned (and more effective) wrist shots—especially quick ones. You can be sure the teams you play in your league have a “book” on you, just as baseball teams have books on opposing players. Learn to mix up your skating, turning and puck carrying techniques. One of the best ways to surprise the opposing team is using the quick shot. For instance, you may be carrying the puck a long way out from the opposing goal. KEVIN MORRISON San Diego Mariners Kevin Morrison appears to be picking up where he left off last season as he counted four goals and three assists over the past week. ’ Last season with the Jersey Knights, now the Mariners, the 5 11”, 202-lb. Morrison tallied 67 points on 24 goals and 43 assists from his rearguard poition. Morrison, who has since joined the Mariners’ forward corps, had three points, including two goals in the 5-3 in the Indianapolis Racers, one goal in the 5-3 loss to Michigan and another single tally in 5-4 setback against Phoenix. MONTREAL — • Buffalo Sabres continue their most impressive showing in their five-year National Hockey League history. The Sabres lead all teams in points with 46: have the leading pointman, Gilbert Perreault, with 48; have a line with each member recording 20 goals: and have the leading pointman among rookies — Dan Gare with 26. The Sabres, who have lost only four games — second best to Los Angeles Kings’ two losses — hold a 14-point lead over runner-up Boston Bruins in the Adams Division.
