New Yorkers On NHL Record Course For Drawn Games

LONG ISLAND— With the Christmas season just about upon us. Islander fans might be wondering what to get coach Al Arbour Well. Al could always use some new shirts, and handkerchiefs are always nice. But forget about ties. Al has more than enough already. Back in 1969-70. the Philadelphia Flyers earned themselves the moniker “Philadelphia Tyers” by knotting their opponents 24 times in a 76-game schedule. This year’s Islanders have a way to go before they can equal that mark, but if their recent play is any indication, they are definitely heading in the right direction. Marie Greyhounds’ 17-year-old Jack Valiquette was selected by Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League draft last spring as an under-age junior, many observers felt that a player of at least equal ability with the Hounds had been overlooked. Valiquette was co-winner of the Ontario Hockey Association Major Junior A scoring championship with Rick Adduono of St. Catharines. each with 135 points. However the youngster who set up Valiquette on many of his 63 goals was apple-cheeked Cary Farelli who had 51 goals of his own and finished fourth in the over-all individual standings with 125 points. Farelli is proving this season that he is indeed an outstanding prospect. Although only 5’8” he is sturdily built, has natural puck sense, is an exceptionally fast skater…
