With his hair flying, the 5’11”. 170-pound center from Swift Current. Sask., barreled fearlessly into the corners to center the puck for his wingmen, most notably Mickey Redmond. NHL’s Stars of the week
DENIS DUPERE Washington Capitals One of the arguments used to support expansion in the NHL is the contention that it gives players who might normally play in the minors or sit on the bench a chance to develop at the major league level. Dupere scored four goals last week, raising his season total to 10, and added three assists to take over the team lead in scoring. Dupere’s scoring led the Capitals to a rare tie with Minnesota and an even rarer victory over California. BRAD PARK New York Rangers When the Rangers…

Gravel New Nordiques’ Coach
LEWISTON— The downtrodden Maine Nordiques have selected a 35-year-old Quebecer to become its new bench coach. Jean Charles Gravel of Tring Junction in Beauce County in Quebec will succeed Michel Harvey, the NAHL’s coach of the year last season. GM Maurice Ducharme, who has been serving as interim coach since Harvey resigned following the team’s disastrous 0-10 start, said Gravel coached Laval University and spent the past two years as pilot of Loretteville Junior Warriors, compiling an imposing 64-11-4 record. One of Gravel’s big problems is cutting down the Nordiques’ goals-against mark. The club has given up 87 goals while scoring just 37.…
