Maloney Trades Up to NHL Contender As Vancouver Roster Gets New Look

VANCOUVER— On Oct. 14 Phil Maloney, their coach and general manager, shook up his Vancouver Canucks by making two separate deals in a single day — the second just minutes before the team was to board a flight for St. Louis and the start of a four-game road trip. Earlier that morning Maloney had completed a deal with Buffalo that sent defenseman Jocelyn Guevremont and winger Bryan McSheffrey to the Sabres for defenseman Mike Robitaille and center Gerry Meehan. The players were still digesting that one when news of the second deal broke. Winger Dave Dunn, already at the airport clutching his boarding pass, was sent to the Toronto Maple Leafs for winger Garry Monahan and defenseman John Grisdale.
