JUNIOR JOTTINGS

Southern Ontario League Coach Wayne Maxner’s champion Windsor Spitfires eliminated Chatham in five games as they outscored the scrappy Maroons 20-14. The hard-hitting Spits, after taking two of the first three games, were forced to come from behind in each of the final two outings to gain the playoff crown and advance against the Provincial League Wexford Raiders for the Ontario District championship. In game four, Mike Reade’s second period score broke a 2-2 tie, Scott Miller followed with his fifth goal of the series, Steve Keech and Mike Sovie added singles and the Spits had a 6-4 win. In the finale, Gary Armstrong, who scored the winner in 2-1 third game, again was the hero as he knocked in the tie-breaker with five minutes remaining to give Windsor a 4-3…
