Streaking Rangers Holding To Top Spot; Black Hawks Snap Fruitless Road String
ST. CATHARINES— There is no longer any doubt which eight teams will qualify for the Ontatio Hockey Association Major Junior A playoffs but the order of finish is still to be decided. Hamilton Red Wings, with just two weeks of the schedule left, had the dubious distinction of being the only club to lock up position, clinching last position for the second successive season. The streaking Kitchener Rangers. in fifth place just one point above Oshawa Generals on Jan. 1. have soared to the top and while they appear to have a safe lead, they are still being threatened by St. Catharines Black Hawks and Peterborough Petes. Michigan Tech, Minnesota Capture Playoff Round
HOUGHTON— Every once in a while, things have a way of working out for the best in the West. Wisconsin finished fourth in 1970 and third in 1973 and represented the West both years at the NCAA tournament. Minnesota won the league championship in 1970 and stayed home. The Gophers finished fifth the following year and made it all the way to…
Blazers Plan To Continue Syracuse Operation
SYRACUSE— Bill Charles, a former general manager of the Eastern Hockey League’s Syracuse Blazers, is back in the Syracuse spotlight. Charles announced last week his outright purchase of the Jacksonville Barons from owner Nick Mileti. The Barons were to move to Syracuse (War Memorial Auditorium and home of the NA Hl. Blazers) and change their major league affiliation. Yet despite the bumpy road that may lie ahead. Blazers’ president Eran Rivette is marching forward. “I don’t care who’s in Syracuse. Rivette stated. “The Blazers are here and they’re going to stay right here in the War Memorial Auditorium.” And true to Rivette words, the Blazers ‘have already started selling season tickets for the 1974-75 season and at the same price as this year’s tickets. “We feel that the Blazers are still the only…
