Patrick Sees Seals Winner — Wants To Stay
OAKLAND— There has been such remarkable change of attitude among players of the California Golden Seals from the moment the new NHL “caretaker management” took control of the club Feb. 16 that many of the players who had earlier expressed desire to be traded have since changed their minds. Among those who have been reported interested in a change of scenery away from Oakland Bay Area are the team’s four top scorers: Joey Johnston, Walt McKechnie. Ivan Boldirev and Reggie Leach. But that was prior to the departure of former Seals’ owner. Charles O. Finley. JUNIOR JOTTINGS
Ontario Provincial League In a thrilling, come-from-behind 7-5 win over the Aurora Tigers before a turnaway crowd of 1,700 fans, the Vaughan Nats wound up with the league crown as they nosed ahead of the North York Rangers on the final night of the season. Aurora moved to a quick 4-1 first period lead on scores by Bruce Smith, Greg Hotham, Doug Counter and Craig Chandler, only to have the fired up Nats rebound with tallies by Warren Holmes, Brian Burtsch, Rick Grisdale and Jeff Woodyatt to open the final stanza tied 5-5. With nine minutes remaining, Nats’ captain Burtsch whipped in his second of the game and Ike Makos added a late empty-net goal for the championship. In playoff action, Vaughan dropped their first two outings to 7th place North…

Two years ago we introduced All Star selections for both East and West divisions and the results were beyond our fondest expectations. Last season we innovated most valuable player choice for both East and West.…
Runaway Rebels Dominate All Star Teams
ROANOKE— To no one’s surprise, regular season champion Roanoke Valley dominated the Southern Hockey League All Star team and a pair of Rebels walked away with two of the league’s top individual awards. The Rebels, who led the race from opening day and clinched the regular-season title with nearly a month to play, placed three men on the six-man team, including center Claude Piche, voted the SHL’s most Valuble player by a panel of newsmen. In addition, young Gregg Pilling was picked as the league’s coach of the year. The only individual award to escape the Rebels was the rookie of the year honor, which went to Winston-Salem left winger Howie Colborne. Teammates joining Piche on the first All Star team were defensemen Wayne Mosdell (the leading vote-getter among the rearguards) and Jack…
