East Wins All Star Game 8-4

ST. PAUL— Playing before a crowd of over 13,000 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the WHA East All Stars defeated the West 8-4 marking the second consecutive year that the East had won. Last year, the East team, coached by Jack Kelley of the New England Whalers, won 6-2. Larry Pleau of the Whalers and Andre Lacroix of the Jersey Knights each scored two goals for the East with singles going to Rejean Houle of Quebec, Ralph Backstrom and Rosaire Paiement of Chicago, and Gerry Pinder of Cleveland. The West was led by Mike Walton who, on his 29th birthday, registered a hat-trick and Larry Lund of the Aeros who tallied the other goal. Staying Close to Top Difficult As Swords’ Injuries Continue

CINCINNATI — If the Cincinnati Swords are still with in striking distance of Hershey after their current road trip, coach Floyd Smith thinks they’ll have an excellent chance of repeating as division champs. But staying within range of the Bears — and, for that matter, keeping ahead of Baltimore, as the Swords were when 1974 began — may be difficult. Every hockey club has injuries from time to time, but the Swords have had far more than their share. BOSTON — Harry Sinden, who has had. in the past, quite some involvement with European hockey (Team Canada. Whitby Dunlops) has recently returned from a scouting trip to Finland where he and Tom Johnson took a look a Finnish and Swdish players. Harry. Bruins’ managing director, and Tom, assistant MD, spent four days in Helsinki and Tampere watching the Finnish and Swedish National teams playing against one another. The general evaluation?
