SOUTH BEND — There are still three good streaks going in the West but one that had Western Collegiate Hockey Association coaches worried finally came to an end. Michigan Tech. Martynuik Big Reason Owls On Rise

COLUMBUS— Don Scott, general manager of the Columbus Owls, isn’t accepting telephone calls from west of Des Moines. He especially doesn’t want to hear from Salt Lake City or Oakland, home base of the California Golden Seals. Scott will do almost anything to hang onto Ray Martynuik his 23-year-old goalie, who has been a key man in the Owls’ rise from doormat to contender in the South Division of the International Hockey League. “He was the guy we wanted to play goal so you can imagine our joy when California called and said he was available,” Scott said.
