Bucks Gain Revenge For Denver Loss As Strong Forechecking Pays Dividends
PORTLAND— The Portland Buckaroos may not have many “policemen” to deal with the Denver Spurs “Goon Squad” but have found an effective way of handling the Spurs. Stinging them with seven power play goals, the Buckaroos have won the last three games with the Spurs, after an opening loss in Portland. The strong Portland forechecking has been driving the Spurs’ inexperienced defense mad. Art Jones knocked the puck off Bob Gassoff’s stick five times in one attempt by Gassoff to clear his zone and finally stopped the play by turning a steal into an unassisted goal. It was one of four unassisted goals from steals in the Denver end of the ice in an 8-3 laugher registered by the Buckaroos. Combined with a victory the night before in Seattle, the Buckaroos took over…

‘Iron Man’ Ramsay Still Going Strong
TOLEDO— “Ifanything happens to that guy, we’ll be on the telephone in less than an hour looking for help.” That summation by Coach Skip Burchell adequately indicates the value of goalie Glenn Ramsay to the Toledo Hornets. You can imagine the sinking feeling which struck when Ramsay suffered a shoulder injury during a game in Flint. The Hornets already were suffering through a 2-7-0 record and resting in last place. Added to that, defenseman John Gravel, a former 1HL All Star, played in only two of the first nine contests before a knee injury put him out of action. Ramsay, in his I8th IHL season, was playing his 1,103 rd game when injury struck. He also is the only man to play in 1,000 regular-season games. The 38-year-old netminder is called ‘The Franchise’ in Toledo…

Miron Infuriated By Cormier Trade
TULSA— It was a frustrating week for the Oilers and general manager-coach Ray Miron. Center Mike Cormier, most valuable player in the CHL last winter, was sold by St. Louis to Phoenix in a surprise move; the Oilers had to settle for a tie in Dallas, Oct. 31, after forging a 3-2 lead in the last period; there was a 6-3 loss in Omaha, Nov. 2, and a 25-minute team brawl in which center Paul Daigle suffered a broken nose: and the week was capped by a 7-0 shutout at home at the hands of arch rival Oklahoma City and former Oiler goalie Gordon McRae. Miron was madder about the Omaha game than the other developments. “Referee Alf Lejeune let the game get out of hand; he’s done that before. And there was…

Line Break-Up Benefits Centennials
CALGARY— Scotty Munro’s logic is sometimes amazing. In fact, he may be the guy who took a loaf of bread and fed the a full house at the Calgary Corral one evening last winter. Now. the Scotchman has taken one and divided it into two and … well, you’ll see the reasoning of it all in just a moment. His Calgary Centennials were the early runaway leaders in the Western Canada Hockey League’s Western Division and even after one month, it appeared as though none of the competition would catch them. Munro came into this season with one of last year’s highest scoring lines intact. Mike Rogers. Jerry Holland and Danny Gare scored an even 150 goals in 68 games in 1972-73, the most devastating 18-year-old offensive combination in the West. Just the…
