Phoenix Pursuing Scoring Record
PHOENIX— When Leo Thiffault scored with just 14 seconds left in the game which the Phoenix Roadrunners lost 3-1 to the Denver Spurs in Denver, it kept alive the Roadrunners’ pursuit of a Western Hockey League record. It marked the I05th regular season game the Roadrunners have scored at least one goal. The WHL record is 133, set by the Salt Lake Golden Eagles last season. The Eagles’ string was ended by a 7-0 setback by the Dallas Black Hawks in an interlocking schedule game with the Central Hockey League team. The two leagues are no longer playing an interlocking schedule. The Roadrunners, felt coach Sandy Hucul, outplayed and even outbrawled the brawling Spurs in that Mile High City loss, but just couldn’t find a chink in goaltender Bill Yeo’s armer.
