New Team Dubbed ‘Six Guns’, Ed Chadwick To Coach Wings

ALBUQUERQUE— The latest addition to the Central Hockey League will be known as the Albuquerque Sir-Guns, a colorful reminder of the cowboy heritage of the New Mexico city. Marvin Seibel, a product of Western Canada who has been broadcasting games for the Denver Spurs of the Western League, has been announced as general manager of the Six-Guns, who will make their debut Oct. 12 against the Omaha Knights in 12,000 seat Tingley Coliseum. Still to be announced is the coach for the newest CHL franchise. Sid Abel, general manager of the Kansas City Scouts, was in town for a brief visit in late June, hut parried all questions on the coaching situation. Since the expansion Scouts won’t take their place in the National League until the 1974-75 season, there has been a lot of…

Wings’ Fans Still Buying NHL Tickets

DETROIT— The great Gordie Howe might be gone from Olympia Stadium but so far is hasn’t reflected at the box office for the Red Wings. Lincoln Cavalieri, who is general manager of the Olympia as well as vice-president of the hockey club, said season ticket renewals are humming along for the Wings…and that despite Howe’s departure and a $1 increase on some 3,000 seats. But the NHL isn’t the only league around and the players have used the WHA as a bargaining lever to get huge sums that Howe never dreamed of. Mickey Redmond’s attorney, soft-spoken Bob Woolf of Boston, carved out a five-year contract that, with bonuses, will give Redmond practically $1 million. It’s the biggest…

Braves Hope For Turnabout In Rookie Crop

BOSTON— The announcement that the Bruins had recruited their final four amateur draft choices, making it 10 out of 11 for Harry Sinden (second pick Jim Jones opted for the WHA’s Vancouver Blazers), contained the customary rhetoric extolling the virtues of each and all, implying that surely with this package of super stars under wraps it is guaranteed to restore the Bruins to NHL prominence. Hopefully this will evolve, particularly for the Braves, who are in dire need of bona fide gate attractions to regain their lost appeal of two years ago. Otherwise, it’s bye, bye Boston, and if the Bruins’ recent junior draft history is any indication, the Braves can start packing right now. Mention of it is taboo around Boston Garden, but there’s little question that the B’s amateur crop during…
