25 Greats Enshrined In U.S. Hall of Fame
EVELETH— Eveleth, Minnesota put itself on the sports map this past June as the United States Hockey Hall of Fame was officially opened. A total of 25 former American hockey greats, including Frank “Mr. Zero” Brimsek, John Mariucci, George and Walter Brown, Hobey Baker and Eddie Jeremiah, were all inducted into the Hall of Fame on June 21, in this small northern Minnesota community. Walter Bush president of the Minnesota North Stars and a director of the Hall, called the induction day “fantastic.” “Hockey has done so much for so many people,” he said. “And it’s time we’ve put something back into it. The Hall of Fame is just that.” Of the 25 inducted, 14 are still living. Brimsek, a star netminder with the Boston Bruins and Chicago Black Hawks and Mariucci, also a former Hawks,…
North Stars May Make Stanfield No. 1
TWIN CITIES — As the long hot summer drones on in Minnesota, with its attendant intrusions of baseball, boating and golf, the North Stars are quietly preparing for their 1973-74 National Hockey League season with every anticipation that the acquisition of Fred Stanfield from Boston has provided them with exactly what they need to make a run at the West Division championship. General manager Wren Blair had been quoted in an earlier recent edition of THE HOCKEY NEWS as saying what the North Stars wanted badly was a big, strong center with NHL experience. Stanfield figures to add some unprecedented depth on a…

Charlotte Let Cherry ‘Off Hook’
ROCHESTER— There Don Cherry and Al Manch were — sitting by themselves in a hotel lobby in Montreal. It was during the National Hockey League’s draft meetings, and every few seconds. somebody from the world of hockey an owner one time, a general manager another. then a media representative, etc. — would interrupt to shake Cherry’s hand and congratulate him for the success of Rochester Americans and for being named Minor League Coach of the Year by THE HOCKEY NEWS. All the fuss was hard for him to believe. Exactly one year earlier, while the annual meetings were going on in Montreal. Don Cherry and Al Manch were sitting by themselves in another hotel lobby-in Buffalo. Nobody was paving attention to either one of them. Cherry had learned only a few days previous that he was…
