Dallas Dominates All Stars, Veisor, Frig Capture Awards

ST. LOUIS — Left wing Michel Cormier of Fort Worth, playing his first professional campaign after many seasons of senior amateur play, was voted most valuable player in the Central League for 1972-73. But the CHL coaches who did the voting didn’t see fit to give Cormier a first team All Star berth. The All Star balloting comp’ letely bypassed Tulsa left wing Lyle Moffat and Fort Worth left wing Danny Gruen, who tied for scoring honors with 80 points apiece. Moffat was given the scoring championship on the basis of more goals, 40 to 35. Mike Veisor of Dallas, the league’s leading goalkeepper with a stingy 2.75 average, was also voted rookie of the year. Len Frig of Dallas was named the league’s outstanding defenseman. First-place Dallas dominated the voting, placing four men…

Arbour, Kelly On List As Canucks Ponder Changes

VANCOUVER— As the Vancouver Canucks scurry about the continent searching for a new general manager and or coach, there are a couple of bystanders around with a more than a passing interest. Their names are Hal Laycoe and Vic Stasiuk. Among other things, they’d like to know where they will be working next year. Laycoe is the Canucks’ acting general manager. Stasiuk was the coach of their last, turbulent National Hockey League season. Neither has been told he’s been fired, but then neither has been rehired, either. Understandably, they’d like to know. If they’re going to be out of work, they’d like to set about finding new jobs before all the good ones disappear. Technically, both are still employed by the Canucks until their one-year contracts expire at the end of the month. Director Coley Hall,…

New York Westsiders Win 7th Junior Title In Row

NEW YORK — By virtue of their 6-4 win over the Brooklyn Stars, the New York Westsiders captured the Art Keegan Memorial Trophy, emblematic of the Metropolitan Junior Hockey Association’s playoff championship, for the seventh year in a row. The Westsiders, who have been also known as the Green Leafs and the 14th Precinct’s over the course of their reign, are made up of teenagers from Manhattan’s West Side, not far from the site of the old Madison Square Garden. Since switching from roller to ice skates when the Met League was formed in 1966-67, the squad has produced one of the great dynasties in amateur hockey. This was the third year in succession in which New York met Brooklyn in the finals. This year’s match-up came about as the Westsiders eliminated White…
