MONTREAL- It took him nine games to get his first goal this season, and no sooner had he scored it than a puck caromed off his thumb, breaking it, and shelving him for eight contests. But Guy Lafleur, going resolutely through his sophomore season, seems to have overcome his problems and may be hitting his peak form at a time when it counts the most. “The puck has been going in the net for me, lately,” he says. “And, I think a lot of the reason for it is because back on the line with Rejean Houle and Marc Tardif. Irritating To Evans Gulls’ Nose Dive

SAN DIEGO — Jack Evans is not happy with his San DiegoGulls. He has reason. The Gulls have won just one point in the last seven games, have dronned to fourth place in the Western Hockey league standings. 10 points behind second place Phoenix and 14 behind first place Salt Lake. Just two weeks ago the Gulls were challenging for first and second. “The whole club has gone sour,” said Evans. The Gulls’ seven-game home-ice victory string was snapped at seven by the Salt Lake Golden Eagles. 6-4. then the Phoenix Roadrunners followed the next night with a 5-0 shutout. Rubbing salt in an already sore wound was Gary Simmons in the Phoenix nets for his first shutout in pro hockey. Simmons languished on the Gulls’ bench and got into 14 games during the 1970-71 season. Hobbled Knights Hold Firm But Dullas Running Away

OMAHA— In spite of injuries, and a very thin blueline corps, Omaha Knights rolled to three straight victories over Texas foes the last week in February. Sharp goaltending and close checking paid off for Fred Creighton’s skaters. Ray Reeson posted his first shutout of the season, a 4-0 home triumph over the league-leading Dallas Black Hawks, Feb. l8. Wayne Bell was in the nets for a narrow 3-2 decision in Fort Worth Feb 23.
