EDMONTON — John Rogers looks in the mirror these days and can’t believe his own eyes. He’s a goal-scorer in the highly-rated Western Canada Hockey League. Rogers, the 19-year-old captain of the Edmonton Oil Kings, couldn’t have hoped for anything more in his draft year of junior hockey. All of a sudden, he has developed into one of the hottest shooters in the West. The fiery forward was better known for his checking ability and hard-nosed approach to the game in his first two WCHL seasons. Brown Eager For Trade, Showed Before Deal Finalized
PITTSBURGH— Traded players are often in a hurry to get to their new teams, but Andy Brown was so eager, he was there before he was traded. The 29-year-old goaltender appeared at Buffalo’s Statler-Hilton Hotel shortly before noon on the day the Penguins were scheduled to play the Sabres. A few hours later, penguin General Manager-Jack Riley arrived from Pittsburgh and was surprised to learn Brown was with the club. According to Riley, Detroit general manager Ned Harkness had turned down his final offer the night before. While Riley waited for Harkness to make a counter offer.
