JUNIOR OTTINGS
Southern Ontario Junior Defending Centennial Cup Champion Guelph Biltmores have topped the league all season but may have a late-season battle with the steadily climbing Niagara Falls Flyers for the league crown. Chatham and Windsor are locked up tight in a third place scrap, but the faltering Welland Spitfires, with only one win in their last ten games, may still pose a playoff threat. Detroit and St. Thomas have improved but seem too far off the pace to contend for a playoff spot. The scoring race has narrowed to a two way duel between Guelph’s Doug Risebrough and Dino Serra of Niagara Falls, while Guelph’s fine goalie. Dennis Kemp, leads the netminders with a three goal per game average. Niagara Falls’ Mark Dumensnil led Flyers to a 5-3 win at Welland…
Players of the week
In The East The Boston Bruins may have lost their touch of late in the exciting East Division race in the National Hockey League but it hasn’t affected Wayne Cashman in the least. Van Impe, Flyers To Part?
TOP NHL SCORERS Looking At NHL Goalers PHILADELPHIA— Pardon the cliche about the handwriting on the wall, but Ed Van Impe’s days as a Flyer seem numbered. It appears the veteran defenseman, who has worn jersey No. 2 since the team’s very first game as an expansion infant six years ago, will be traded or sold in the very near futre. It is 50-50 that he will finish out the season, and the odds are a lot shorter about him remaining a Flyer when the 1973-74 season rolls around. The amazing thing, Van Impe is still a helluva hockey playe-r… a guy who gives his all, a team player, an asset to the game. He is only 32 and he has not yet begun the backslide to oblivion. For sure, he is going to be playing hockey—and…
