Cautious Seals Clamp Lid On Injuries In Latest Move

LOUISVILLE SLUGGER HOCKEY STICKS Made in Canada by HILLERICH & BRADSBY, LTD. Arnold Street, Wallaceburg, Ontario Sold in U.S. and Canada OAKLAND— “I was injured the worst to-night,” said Vic Stasiuk after one of the roughest games played this season at the Coliseum Arena. The California Golden Seals coach was limping around the dressing room after his club beat Philadelphia, 3-2, but his sore foot was caused by one of his own players, or more specifically, his own bench. Seals’ center Bobby Sheehan jumped up at one point and tipped the heavy wooden bench over backwards onto stasiuk’s big toe. Last season, the bench fell on trainer Barry Keast’s foot, resulting in a fractured bone. Stasiuk’s injury, however, wasn’t that serious. DOWN EAST

Penn Slips Harvard Unexpected Setback Harvard ran into an unexpected road-block in their ride to the top of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The big bomb dropped last week in the ECAC was the one University of Pennsylvania unloaded on the Crimson as they upset Harvard 3-2 right in dear old Cambridge. Harvard had dumped Northeastern 8-3 in the opening round, then followed up two nights later with a 6-2 shelling of Clarkson behind Dave Hynes’ four-goal effort. The Crimson had tied Penn 2-2 midway through the third period on Bob Mc-Manama’s second goal, but Penn, winners of eight of their last 10 games,…

Rick Martin Shoots 39th Goal To Establish NHL Rookie Mark

BUFFALO— Richard Martin set a rookie record for goals as the National Hockey League moved into its final weeks. The 20-year-old left-winger tied the record at 38 when he connected against the Philadelphia Flyers here in a 4-4 tie and then established the new standard at Toronto scoring the only goal for the Sabres in a 4-1 setback. The record was set a year ago by Martin’s linemate, Gilbert Perreault. The two also were teammates with the Montreal Junior Canadiens, but never player on the same line. Martin connected for No. 38 in game No. 57 of a 78-game schedule. Perreault scored his 38th a year ago in the 78th and last game of the schedule. Thus, 21 games ahead of Per-reault’s pace, Martin was virtually a cinch score at least 45. Of their remaining…
