Chicago Stadium Jinx Still Hanging Over Philly Flyers
LOUISVILLE SLUGGER HOCKEY STICKS Made in Canada by HILLERICH & BRADSBY, LTD. Arnold Street, Wallaceburg, Ontario Sold in U.S. and Canada PHILADELPHIA— Don’t blame the Flyers for wishing there’s a re-incarnation of Mrs. O’Leary’s cow. You know, that mild-mannered beast that turned ill-tempered one evening and supposedly kicked over a lantern…setting the barn ablaze, the block ablaze and reducing almost the entire pleasant little city of Chicago to ashes. The Flyers, undoubtedly, would park her beneath Chicago Stadium and hope for more of the same. If you wonder why the Flyers are ready to turn to drastic measures, just examine Philly’s record in Chicago Stadium since NHL expansion. It’s pathetic, to say the least. The Flyers have yet to win even once in 13 games in Chicago, an arena that’s even worse to them than Boston…

Edwards Quits Claiming ‘Strain Of Game’ Too Much
PITTSBURGH— As if they didn’t have enough problems the Pittsburgh Penguins picked up an unwanted one when veteran goalkeeper Roy Edwards packed his bags and went home. It was the second such ‘retirement’ for the 34-year-old netminder, who informed the Penguins he was returning to his home in Caledonia, Ont., because “the strain of hockey was getting to him.” Edwards announced he would be gone for an indefinite period, possibly for good, which wasn’t too pleasing to the struggling Penguins. The tiny netminder suffered a distressing head injury when with Detroit Red Wings and quit the game as the result last season. The Pens, nevertheless, drafted him and he reported this year performing admirably in 16 games posting a 2.55 goals against average and a 2-8-4 record. As the result of Edwards’ sudden decision…

Kings’ Rivers On Record Scoring Course As Dineen Hoping To Improve Road Play
SPRINGFIELD— Wayne Rivers, the 10-year hockey veteran, pushed in five goals against the Cincinnati Swords to put himself on a record course. Obtained in the reverse draft last spring in the parent Los Angeles Kings, Rivers was in training with the big club until he was sent here to play. In his long journey in the game, Wayne has been known as a pro who could always find the range. Last season with the Baltimore Clippers, the permanent resident of Hershey, Pa., had 38 goals and right now is close to the 30 mark here. He will be out to hit 45 to tie the old club record made two years ago by Doug Robinson, who is now with Nova Scotia. Jim Anderson, now coaching in Oklahoma City, set the original club…
