Totems Get Seven New Faces As Club Makes Bid To Rebuild

SEATTLE— What the Seattle Totems seem to need most, at the moment, are introductions. Not to the crowd as much as to each other. General manager Murray Costello has shipped so many players in and out of Seattle in the past few weeks he has broken all of Joe Crozier’s records, set when the Vancouver Canucks were in the Western Hockey League. Costello could save time and expenses by moving his office to the airport. But the Totems, who only own a few players, are no farther ahead picking up everyone’s castoffs than they were under the aborted working agreement with Vanouver. Rookie coach Chuck Holmes, wondering why he ever wanted to move behind the bench anyway, greeted 10 skaters and two goaltenders at one workout just after Costello said farewell to Vancouver GM Bud Poile. Dick Duff May Try Coaching

BUFFALO— Dick Duff will be home for Christmas for the first time in 18 years. Home is Kirkland Lake, Ont. where the 35-year-old left-winger was born and prepared for a brilliant 16-year career in the National Hockey League. Duff retired after playing in only eight games this season, and left as the 17th leading scorer in the history of the NHL. He played portions of two other seasons, at the beginning and end of his career, as well as the full 16, and never laced up a boot in the minors. “I wish I was 20 years old agains, but I enjoyed my stay in the NHL, and I have no regrets,” he said at luncheon here in his honor. ‘I would like to stay in hockey in some non-playing capacity, and may try to…
