Muckier Expects Barons To Put It All Together Soon
CLEVELAND— The Cleveland Barons lost four of their first five games this season. a development that would tend to send most coaches into various states of depression, but not so with the Barons’ optimistic coach and general manager John Muckier. Muckier said prior to the season’s opening that he expected this club to be slow out of the gate, but a contender by mid-November. Now, his prognostication not only appears to be accurate, but may even come to pass earlier than even he predicted. The Barons, after ten games had improved their record to.3-52, and faced three consecutive faceoffs on home ice. Canadiens Need ‘Good Trips’ To Stay With Leaders In NHL
MONTREAL— If Canadiens hope to better their third-place standing of last season, they’re going to have to take some good, collective trips. By mid-November, only half-a-dozen games will have been played at the Montreal Forum. The remaining ten of Habs’ first 16 contests will have been on the road. Last season, the top three clubs in hockey—Boston, New York and Chicago—all had plus records away from home. Canadiens were 13-16-10 for 36 points in their 39 road outings. So, obviously, better trips are a must if Habs hope to move up and rank with the best in the business. Canadian-Style Junior League Being Planned By New Yorkers
NEW YORK— The Greater New York City Hockey League announced the formation of The Greater New York State Junior Hockey Federation for the 1972-1973 season. The purpose of the federation will be to establish a state-wide junior-age hockey league dedicated toward attaining Junior “A” status similar to that which now exists in Canada. At present, top American junior-age players must cross over the border to be exposed to a higher level of competition which accelerates their development toward a professional career. It is contemplated to establish a two-division, North and South, 42 game regular season schedule plus 18 playoff and exhibition games per team. Franchises will be awarded to acceptable candidates by writing Walter Yaciuk, 35-29 91st Street, Jackson Heights, New York 11374, suggesting their version of a Constitution and By-Laws, firm…
