Thousands Hail Habs After Playoff Win; Dryden Series Hero
MONTREAL — Even if the Canadiens had come back from Boston carrying the Stanley Cup they hardly could have expected a greater reception than they received that Sunday evening after their crucial victory in the seventh game of the quarter-final series. An estimated 5,000 delirious fans swarmed inside and outside the arrivals lobby at Dorval Airport as the Air Canada charter and their hockey heroes touched down. The Habs got their first taste of applause from airport employees who all found some reason to be near the gate. Players’ wives and children were admitted inside the customs section. They wound up trapped there when the crowd, carrying banners and photos of their favorites and singing the praises of Les Canadiens blocked the doorway. Individual cheers started for the players until the chant grew louder…


Clippers Gave Fans Exciting Hockey Year Baltimore
BALTIMORE — Regardless of the Calder Cup’s final resting place for the 1970-71 AHL campaign, it is already safe to assume that Baltimore Clipper followers have had a wonderful winter of hockey. Who would have anticipated Coach Terry Reardon’s Raiders leading the AHL west from the moment the first puck was dropped here on October 9 until veteran defenseman Kent Douglas skated off the Springfield rink on Sunday night. April 4 as his teammates again preceeded him into the dressing room for the seventy-second time this winter? It’s not easy to be first.
