• THE GAME in Buffalo on New Year’s Night against the Boston Bruins was telecast, which is something the Sabres do not normally do. “It was a special holiday gift to the fans,” said Seymour Knox III, president of the Buffalo club… Charles R. Hawks Ring Out The Old, Bring In The New On Road As Club Sets Two Marks
CHICAGO— “The best schedule,” Coach Billy Reay was saying, “is the balanced one—where you’re not at home for too long, and not on the road for too long at one stretch.” And with that, the Black Hawks took off for a trip to the West Coast during Christmas week and Detroit and points east for New Year’s week. The Hawks had a astounding record for their first 18 home games—16 victories and two ties. That stood as a club record for an unbeaten string at Chicago Stadium as did another string that was still alive going into 1971—thirteen victories in a row. Flint Lands Pennington, Gorman As Trades Continue Among Clubs
FLINT— Trades and sales continued to be the policy of the International Hockey League clubs as the old year faded out on the tight race. One of the latest transpired between the Flint Generals, attempting to regain their long-held position at the top of the heap and the Port Huron Flags, seeking to get out of the equally long tenure of the basement. This was an outright sale of Dave Gorman, the Flags’ leading scorer last season to the Generals for “something more than the waiver price”, which is $300. Gorman, who plays either wing, ranked 11th in scoring in the league last season with 35 goals and 45 assists for 80 points.
