Foley Embarked On Penalty Spree
PORTLAND— A total of 708 minutes in penalties whistled on one player in one season? Naw, it didn’t happen. But that was the pace Rick Foley, big defenseman of the Portland Buckaroos, was setting in the first round of the Western Hockey League playoffs. In six games against the Seattle Totems, Foley was called for 59 minutes on 12 minors, three majors and two misconducts. At that pace over a 72-game schedule, Foley would finish with 708 minutes off the ice.…

‘Day’ Set For Wings Ice Star
THUNDER BAY— Alex ‘Fats’ Delvecchio, 19-year veteran of Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey league, will receive home-town recognition of his achievements here Sunday, June 14. The city of Thunder Bay will salute its most illustrious hockey product with a special “Alex Delvecchio Day” here on that date. Alex was born here Dec. 31, 1931, in Fort William, now a ward of the new city of Thunder Bay. The day for Delvecchio starts with a civic brunch at 11.30 a.m. There’s a parade through the city starting at 2 o’clock which winds up at the Fort William Stadium. Spokane Takes Step Toward Amateur Hockey History
SPOKANE— The Spokane Jets, striving to become the first American team to win the Allan Cup in history, put their best foot forward in the start of their best-of-seven final against the Eastern champions-the Orillia Terriers. The Jets, coached by former National Hockey League League Vezina Trophy winner Al Rollins, dumped the Terriers 5-2 in the start of the Canadian National senior hockey finals, which will be played in its entirety on Spokane ice. No team has ever won the Allan Cup represententing a United States city and the Jets appear to be the first solid threat to Canadian domination of their senior ice laurels.
