Winnipeg Jets Pack Them In As Club Bounces Into Final
WINNIPEG— Huge crowds in the Winnipeg-Flin. Flon playoff for the Western Canada League’s Eastern Division title have assured a healthy bank balance for Winnipeg Jets’ owner Ben Hatskin. Jets’ newfound winning ways in the East semi-finals against Estevan also helped boost attendance at spacious Winnipeg Arena. Equally happy is Calgary Centennials’ ownercoach Scotty Munro. In addition to tremendous crowds in the Western Division final against Edmonton, he got an unexpected windfall when his team’s semi-final against Saskatoon Blades went the full seven games. Centennials finished first and were expected to win fairly easily over Blades, who were a poor last. But Blades, who improved all year, took a 3-2 lead in the series. Arnold Street, Wallaceburg, Ontario Sold in U.S. and Canada LOS ANGELES— At last it ended, the longest season in NHL history. The Los Angeles Kings impressed everyone with their spirited play through to the finish under deeply depressing circumstances, so there is no desire to punish them beyond what their foes did, but at this point the details must be chronicled. Finishing a distant last, the Kings won 14 games, lost 52 and tied 10 for 38 points. They were 12-22-4 at home, 2-30-6 on the road. They were 3-29-4 against established teams in the Eastern Division, 11-23-6 against fellow expansionists in the Western Division. They failed to best an Eastern foe in 18 road games. Over the years, the NHL schedule…
