Edmonton Croup To Airlift Fans To Vancouver For NHL Games

EDMONTON— The NHL has long held a magic appeal for folks on the Western Canadian prairies. For years radio, and later television, supplied the only live link with the blazing action under the big top. That will all change next season, thanks to some enterprising young Edmonton businessmen. Taking advantage of Vancouver’s entry into the NHL and the fact the West Coast city is only a province away, one and possibly two Edmonton groups will promote regular trips to watch NHL games in Vancouver. Leader in the venture is Roger Bourbonnais, former captain of the Canadian Nationals and now a respected young Edmonton lawyer. He joined with chartered accountants Gordon Miniely and Gary Davidge to launch Hockey Boosters (Edmonton) Ltd. The company has acquired 180 season tickets and plans to offer 20 trips to Vancouver…

CHICAGO— Pat Stapleton continues to ignore the pain as he makes his daily series of skating tours around the stadium rink. But the Black Hawks’ normally ebullient captain is growing discouraged over the prospect of his damaged left knee improving to the point where he’ll be able to help his team in its quest for the Stanley Cup. He seemed to be making a rapid recovery from the ligament damage he suffered Feb. 7 when he crashed heavily into the net post while blocking a shot against the Philadelphia Flyers. When the cast was removed four weeks ago there was hope that with proper treatment and exercise he would be able to resume his defensive duties for the playoffs, if not for the final few games of the season.
