Voyageurs Romp In First AHL Year, Drouin’s 106 Points Wins Scoring

MONTREEAL— For a first-year hockey club, one would have to say the Montreal Voyageurs were excellent. The club set a couple of records and the players worked hard the entire season, despite injuries and call-ups to the parent Montreal Canadiens. “This is atremendousteam,” said club trainer Noel Geoffroy. “I’ve seen a fewgood teams and this one is tremendous.” Geoffroy has been trainer for several dazzling Junior clubs. “There were times where there were missing quite a lot of guys from the team but the others picked up the slack and came through,” player-coach Al MacNeil said. Buffalo, Montreal Dominate 18th Annual Coaches’ Teams

HARRISBURG— The Buffalo Bisons and Montreal Voyageurs swept five first all-star team positions and three of the four individual awards in the 18th annual American Hockey League coaches’ dream teams selected for THE HOCKEY NEWS and the Harrisburg Patriot-News. Goalie Gilles Villemure, one of two unanimous selections to the first team, was voted the most valuable player, while his coach Fred Shero walked off with coach-of-the year honors. As in past years the coaches based their choices on home and away play performances. The teams are all-opponent, that is, no coach voted for his own player in team balloting. Rookie-of-the-year went to Jude Drouin, Montreal Voyageurs center and the league’s top scorer, while Noel Price, Springfield Kings, was picked as the best defenseman. Both were first team selections. Villemure, with eight shutouts to his credit…
