Loyola Ace Lowe Leads
MONTREAL— When Mike Lowe decided against a professional hockey career this season in favor of returning to college, it made the hockey year for Loyola College. The fast-skating Lowe has become the scoring darling of the Ottawa St. Lawrence Conference through the first half of the season and as long as he stays around, Loyola is going to be a force in Canadian collegiate circles this year. Lowe had 38 goals and 29 assists for 67 points in 20 games to lead all Loyola marksmen as well as head the OSL race in which the Warriors have won eight and tied one in nine starts at the top of the loop.…

Rookie Butch Goring Kings’ New Sensation
LOS ANGELES— One of the few bright spots in the play of the Los Angeles Kings this season has been the emergence of first-year-pro Robert “Butch” Goring as a potential future star. Goring is one of two 20-year-olds plucked out of the inaugural draft of graduating seniors by the Kings to make the NHL roster this season. The other, Dale “Red” Hoganson a defenseman, had shown enormous promise, before the Kings’ decided that he needed more seasoning and sent him out to Springfield. Two others, Greg Boddy, a defenseman, and Bruce Landon, a goalkeeper, have shown similar promise at Springfield of the American League. The Kings appear to have selected wisely, and no team needs it more. Goring is small, only 5-10 and 165 pounds, but he wears a helmet (recently he discarded it…
