Sanderson Supports Morrison, Fivers’ Bob Clarke Best Rookie

PHILADELPHIA— If Lew Morrison or Derek Sanderson were casting ballots to help determine the NHL’s Rookie of the Year this season, they’d vote for Bobby Clarke of the Flyers. Since Morrison himself is a linemate of Clarke’s and Sanderson is a member of the rival Boston Bruins who won the rookie award two seasons ago, their opinions certainly come from different directions. “Without a doubt, Bobby is the top rookie, “said Morrison, who also is having a fine first year. “I would say, in all honesty, that no other rookie in the league has proven more valuable to his team. “Maybe I’m biased a little because I’m a teammate. Orr Leads Assault On Halfwav Awards

MONTREAL— A handful of National Hockey Leaguers—including the Boston Marvel Bobby Orr—are a little richer today as the result of their first-half prowess in the 1969-70 schedule. With the teams reaching the midway point in the 78-game schedule, money winners picked up $250. Orr pocketed $500. Orr became the first defenseman in NHL history to win bonus money from the league in a scoring race while Phil Goyette of St. Louis Blues won his first individual monetary award from the league. The Chicago Black Hawks’ goaltending pair of rookie Tony Esposito and Denis Dejordy were declared midseason leaders in the Vezina Trophy race. After Bruins’ first 38 games, Orr had 12 goals, 49 assists and 61 points, which earned him $500 as midseason point leader. Goyette won $250 as runner-up with 17 goals, 32…
