Wilson Will Coach With Iron Hand, Everyone Agreed Laycoe ‘Too Easy’
LOS ANGELES— On the tenth of December, former L.A. Kings’ coach Red Kelly visited the Forum in his capacity as new coach of Pittsburgh and was asked how he explained the fall of his old club. Kelly smiled. “I don’t have to explain it.” he said. Hal Laycoe did have to, but could not. He said, “If anything you have to blame the coaching.” Jack Kent Cooke did. On the 15th of Jack Cooke December, Cooke conferred with manager Larry Regan, called in Laycoe, told him he was dismissed as coach, and announced Johnny Wilson as the new coach, with Doug Harvey as an assistant. NHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
In The West No matter what Bill Goldsworthy does the rest of the season for the Minnesota North Stars, it will be all gravy for the big, blond right winger. Goldsworthy has bolted into the league lead in goal scoring by virtue of the four goals he tallied last week for the North Stars. He now has a total of 18 for the season, four more than he counted all last year. Goldy also has 28 points which puts him in the top 17 NHL scorers. Ironically, eight of Goldsworthy’s 18 goals have been scored against East Division teams and 10 of them were registered on the road.
