Gamble Benches Himself, Will It Be Permanent?

ROCHESTER— Will Dick Gamble remain a bench coach? Will the Rochester Americans continue their winning ways with Gamble behind the bench in street clothes? Will the 41-year-old Gamble be able to withstand the urge to play again? When the Americans got off to a slow start this season, and Gamble had problems with his own play, the longtime left-wing star took himself off the active roster. Flyers’ CM Poile Charges Bowman Incited NHL Brawls

PHILADELPHIA— Philadelphia Flyers’ general manager Bud Poile has charged St. Louis general manager-coach Scotty Bowman with having been “99 percent responsible for the last four major brawls that I can remember in the National Hockey League.” Poile, speaking at a press conference in Quebec City, was asked to comment on the latest brawl involving the Blues and Montreal Canadiens in St. Louis. “Four of the major brawls that I can remember in the last two years have involved the St. Louis Blues,” stated Poile. “And I’m going to ask Mr. (Clarence) Campbell (NHL president) to look into this. “I think it’s more than a coincidence that the St. Louis Blues have been involved in all of them.” Two of the four incidents Poile is referring to involve the Flyers.
