NEW YORK — As you read this Bob Nevin, the Rangers’ captain and right wing star should be just about getting back into uniform after sustaining a knee injury in the opening game of the season. To date, New York has gone 3-3-1 without Nevin which is not bad. “Nevvy is a big man for us, without a doubt,” says Emile Francis, the Rangers General Manager — Coach. “We have been fo tunate to do as well without him.” This must be accepted as gospel. An examination of the New York record reveals 4-3, 1-0 and 4-1 wins over Minnesota, Toronto and Detroit. Peterborough Hits Roadblock But Petes Among Top Teams
PETERBOROUGH — Peterborough Petes are acquiring a growing dislike to playing their games in the Niagara District. After winning their first six games in the Ontario Hockey Association junior A schedule the Petes were held to a 4-4 tie by Niagara Falls Flyers in the Falls, then 48 hours later suffered their initial defeat, 7-4 to the Black Hawks in St. Catharines. The St. Catharines and Niagara Falls arenas are only eight miles apart and both cities are in the new Niagara Regional Government area. Despite losing three of four points the Petes are still considered as one of the bestrbalanced teams in the junior circuit and have one of the most promising prospects for pro hockey in Rick MacLeish who scored 52 goals last season.
