“I’Staying Retired Unless Club In Bind”

EDMONTON— Glenn Hall has reiterated that he plans to remain retired unless the St. Louis Blues get caught up in a bind and need his help. Hall, commenting on latest reports that he might be considering a return to the NHL after announcing his retirement, said he would continue to tend to his farm here. “I told Scotty Bowman before the season started that I would not return to the NHL unless the club is in a bind and needs my help through injuries. I haven’t changed my mind on what I said then and I still feel the same way now,” commented Hall. Hall, who is 38, said that he had had enough of the NHL grind of getting ready for hockey games. He said he was content to stay home with the farm.…

Barry Watson Active And Amerks Are Glad

ROCHESTER— When the Rochester Americans activated Barry Watson, they had no idea of how active he’d be. But they’re sure not sorry they did it. The just-turned 24-year-old forward didn’t exactly set the American Hockey League on its ear last season. He was in uniform for 66 Amerk games and managed just 13 goals and 11 assists. But his 13 goals were still three more than he had registered in each of his previous professional campaigns, both with Vancouver of the Western League. So when Joe Crozier, who is general manager of both Rochester and the parent Vancouver club, said he was taking Watson to the West Coast for training camp this fall, there was only a “so what’s the difference” attitude by Amerk fans.
