Broda told Quebec newsmen that he hoped to have a winning club, a fact that was supported by Philadelphia general manger Bud Poile, who was on hand to make the announcement of Broda’s appointment. The new Quebec coach played most of his professional career as a goaltender with the Toronto Maple Leafs. During his fourteen seasons with the Leafs, he played on…

‘Catering’ To Kings Trainer Mackie’s Job
LOS ANGELES— On all hockey teams, few men work harder or are more valuable than the trainer. This is true on the Los Angeles Kings as it is on other clubs. The Kings trainer is Norm Mackie, a tall, 34-year-old red-haired fellow who tends the players’ minor wounds, tapes them up, takes care of their sticks and other equipment, takes care of their clothes, washes their clothes or sees that they are washed, and so on and so forth into the wee hours. Mackie is the first to arrive in the dressing room and the last to leave. Think about it for a moment: Every time the Kings have a game, Norm must see that all their gear is distributed in the proper cubicles. After the game, he must pick up after…
