Broda Wants Winner As New Aces’ Coach
QUEBEC CITY — Walter (Turk) Broda, one of hockey’s all-time great netminders and a member of Hockey’s Hall of Fame, has been named to coach the Quebec Aces of the American Hockey League. Broda will be forced to fill a big pair of hockey shoes. He replaces Vic Stasiuk, who was elevated to the head coaching job with the Philadelhia Flyers of the NHL after guiding the Aces the last two years. Broda told Quebec newsmen that he hoped to have a winning club, a fact that was supported by Philadelphia general manger Bud Poile, who was on hand to make the announcement of Broda’s appointment. The new Quebec coach played most of his professional career as a goaltender with the Toronto Maple Leafs. During his fourteen seasons with the Leafs, he played on…

I’m all for it.” ROGER ELLIS, police man, New York: “I think it’s a good thing to curtail it. I’ve been watching the Rangers around the Garden for years ad they’ve been getting along…

Rookies Steal Early Spotlight As Bisons Sizzle In Camp Play
BUFFALO — Coach Fred Shero was more than pleased with his rookies and newcomers, and something less than happy with his veterans after the Buffalo Bisons won their first two pre-season games and tied the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National League in the third. The Bisons, defending Western Division champions in the American Hockey League, knocked over the Central League Omaha Knights, 5-3, and followed with a 7-3 romp over the Denver Spurs of the Western League. Against the Spurs, three rookies handled the scoring as Jack Egers and Jim Krulicki each scored three times and Pierre Jarry once. “I don’t need to be reminded that it takes the older fellows a little longer to regain their skating legs,” Shero said, “but some of the holdovers haven’t been giving it a big effort. “We have a…
