Kelly Happy In New St. Louis Setting As ‘Voice Of Blues”
ST. LOUIS, Mo.— There’s something about St. Louis and its hockey team that causes people to become great boosters for them, and Dan Kelly is no exception. Kelly is the smiling Irishman from Ottawa, Canada, who went a long way to St. Louis to become hockey broadcaster for the Blues. Says Dan: “Hockey has certainly taken St. Louis by storm. While in Canada hockey is a sport that we all grew up with, in St. Louis it’s something brand new and exciting. And, while American hockey fans are not as knowledgeable of the finer points of the game, they certainly more than make up for it in enthusiasm. For me,” he continues, “it’s a great thrill to be ‘part of the St. Louis Blues hockey organization, and to broadcast these games on KMOX…
Oklahoma-Dallas Title Final Set As Blazers Bounce Tulsa Oilers
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.— The Oklahoma City Blazers moved into the showdown series with the sizzling Dallas Black Hawks for the Adams Trophy and the series could be one of the best finals in the history of the Central Hockey League. The Blazers made it into the finals by defeating Tulsa Oilers 4-3 in a best-of-seven semi-final series that was closely played throughout. The Oklahoma crew put the cap on the series by winning 5-3 on home ice as Jim Harrison banged in the winning goal with only 5.14 to play in the final period. It was Harrison’s second goal of the night but by far the biggest one. The teams had entered the game all deadlocked at 3-3 after the John McLellan’s Oilers had jumped ahead in the series 3-2 only to see the…
NHL Player Of The Week
Ted Irvine was picked off by the Los Angeles Kings for NHL expansion primarily because he had a reputation of being a scorer in the Boston organization. The Kings have been waiting patiently for Irvine to come through this season and now it appears their patience wasn’t in vain. Irvine produced big this past week to push the Kings into the Western Division finals against St. Louis Blues. Irvine had a goal and an assist in the Kings’ 4-3 win against Oakland and when the series went down to a ‘showdown’ seventh game, Irvine responsed with two goals and the Kings picked up the momentum to oust Oakland and go on to face the Blues. El Producto and THE HOCKEY NEWS are pleased to salute the NHL’s player-of-the-week in the West: Ted lrvine…Los Angeles…
Dayton Muskegon Stage Repeat Cup Final
DAYTON. O. — By a strange quirk of circumstances, including an entirely new six-team “semiround robin” initial playoff, the same two teams that contested for the International League’s Turner Cup last year were in the finals again. That would be Dayton, the season champions and Muskegon, third place finishers. Last year Muskegon’s Mohawks, who breezed to the title with a margin of 20 points, won the playoff final, four games to one, from Dayton’s Gems, who finished second to the Mohawks over the season. The Gems took season honors this year, nosing out Toledo by one point, while the Mohawks were having a hard fight to protect third place, which they eventually captured by seven points. As the Gems and Mohawks squared away for their five-game Turner Cup series, the old playoff question was…
