Hot Bruins Nearing Top In NHL Race

BOSTON, Mass. — Which is currently the hottest team in the National Hockey League? If you named the Boston Bruins, you are 100 per cent correct. The sizzling Bruins moved to within a single point of the Eastern Division lead last week by running roughshod over three opponents in four days. On Thursday, coach Harry Sinden’s side scored a convincing 4-1 triumph over the Western Division runner-up Los Angeles Kings. They followed this act with even more impressive offensive displays against two established teams, New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs. The Bruins cooled off the Rangers, who had high hopes of regaining their “number one” status held two weeks ago, 5-1. Then the Bostonians bounced back with another top-flight scoring effort the next night to drub the slumping Toronto Maple Leafs 7-4. All three games…

North Stars’ Fans Glowing Over Play Of ‘Hot Liners’

TWIN CITIES, Minn. — Memo to those responsible persons who’ll select the 18 or so players to represent the West Division in the National Hockey League All Star game on Jan, 21. When you get around to picking the forwards, you wouldn’t be too far off naming one entire line from the Minnesota North Stars. Hereabouts, the unit has been tabbed as the “Hot” line and is comprised of Danny O’Shea, Danny Grant and Claude Larose. And how “hot” have they been? Well, in Minnesota’s first 16 games — six of which ended in the victory column along with eight losses and two ties — the O’Shea-Grant-Larose partnership accounted for 21 goals. That’s exactly half of the 42 tallied by the Stars, who during the same time yielded 48 for an even goals against average…

As reward for his fine work he was recently appointed vice-president of the NHL and has the honor of being the first vice-president in the history of the National Hockey League … John Ferguson didn’t win any friends for himself the other night in Montreal when he took resounding reef at Goalie Roger Crozier of the Red Wings. One of the nicest guys you could hope to meet off ‘the ice, Ferguson becomes one of the meanest once he steps out on the ice surface … Members of the NHL rules committee are considering making some changes in the rule…
