Harris Rocks NHL Rivals With Hitting Tactics
DETROIT. Mich.— When Ron Harris first was with the Red Wings they nicknamed him “Li’l Abner.” Harris has muscles on his muscles. In his second time around with the Wings he’s getting a chance to use the muscles. Harris and Bob Baun. who arrived together in a May trade with the Oakland Seals, have made coach Bill Gadsby’s defenseman’s heart warm. Gadsby was a hitter and they’re hitters. Harris hit Montreal’s Jacques Laperriere so hard he knocked him all the way back to Montreal. It happened during the Canadians’ first visit to Olympia this season and shortly after Laperriere scored what proved to be the winning goal in a 4-2 Montreal victory. AHL Reds’ Figure, Mrs. Rivers Dies
PROVIDENCE, R.I.— Mrs. Marguerite V. Rivers, secretary and treasurer of the Rhode Island Auditorium, Inc., died Oct. 22 at Rager Williams General Hospital after an illness of one year. She was 60 years of age. Mrs. Rivers was employed by the auditorium for 40 years, first as secretary to the late Louis A. R. Pieri, auditorium owner and manager, and subsequently as secretary-treasurer of the auditorium corporation. When she first joined the auditorium staff as a high school graduate, young Marguerite Mc-Namara quickly became known as “Mac.” Thereafter she was “Mac” to hockey players, sports writers and people from the entertainment world, and to all of them, “Mac” was a nickname used only with affectionate regard.
