Hull Sorry He Didn’t Sit In On Contract Talks
CHICAGO, Ill. After all the contract tumult had subsided, Bobby Hull took partial blame for the situation. “I guess I should have been in on the final negotiations just before I made the announcement that I was retiring. I asked my advisers if I should and they agreed that it wouldn’t be necessary. “They did a good job for me but it turned out that I probably should have attended. When we finally got around to agreeing, it was a matter of Tommy (general manager Tommy Ivan), Billy Wirtz, and I looking at the same objectives. It was just a matter of how kind they were going to be”. Mikita said that he had considered announcing his retirement during his wrangle but abandoned it. “What would have been the point?” he asked. “I need the…
Springfield Facing Big Ice Hurdle

McCallum Could Fill Penguin Defense Void
PITTSBURGH, Pa. Penguins general manager Jack Riley admits he’s still looking for a defenseman to bolster his Pittsburgh hockey club. But he thinks the problem could be solved if Dune McCallun shakes off an ankle injury and Billy Speer develops more in Baltimore. “Getting Bob Wyotowich from Minnesota was a big move,’ Riley said. “But I think Dune could be a key. He hardly had any contact during preseason training and he didn’t play a game until the opener against Montreal.” McCallum cracked his right ankle during an early scrimmage at Brantford, Ontario, and missed one full week of contact work. He is slowly getting back into condition but admits he favors his ankle. “I was unsure of myself when I first went in against Montreal”, the husky McCallum admitted. “And a few guys…
