Rangers’ Gilbert Shows He’s Top Clutch Player With Showing In Playoffs

NEW YORK, N.Y.— Hot Rod Gilbert was voted the West Side Association Trophy as the Rangers’ most valuable player during the 1967-68 season, but still there were carping crlticizers of his play. Some observers said that Jean Ratelie had had a more productive (32 goals to 29), and more steady season, than his right wing partner in crime. They had a point, as Gilbert had only five goals on December 16 - and New York was languishing in fifth and sixth place. When Hot Rod reeved up his engine the Blue machine took off and finished a nice respectable second. But EHL Expecting 12-Team Complement Back

NEW YORK, N.Y. — As the Eastern Hockey League magnats gathered together here to review the past season and to delve into plans for the 1968-1969 campaign, official league figures were released on the past season. The meeting at the Hotel New Yorker May 6-8 is designed to clarify the situation of the 12 existing franchises for next season. There have been rumors about the shakiness of several franchises, notably Jersey, Knoxville and Nashville. At this session president Tom Lockhart likely will call for the posting of preliminary escrow money to solidify each franchise’s plans to play next year. Jersey is in a precarious state because of poor attendance this past season and the competition provided by the NHL Philadelphia Flyers. Knoxville almost folded in mid-season until a group headed by Frank Dafferner…
